Berry Young Smoothie

I’m all for those antioxidants giving us that glowing skin and chances are, you are too. Lucky for us my Berry Young smoothie is full of antioxidants and sweetness!

Lately, I have a smoothie almost every day, either as a post workout or a dessert. I naturally crave sweets and I’ve learned that the last thing you want to do is deprive yourself of the food you really enjoy and doesn’t make you feel yucky afterward just because some health magazine or whatnot told you that you should cut down on your fruit intake.

Ummmm…. NO!

I will have my smoothie, I will top it with more fruit if I darn well want to and I’ll feel amazing all while I slurp it down!

Confidence Looks Good On Everyone

There I was, standing in front of my closet on a cold summer morning trying to find any pair of my pre-pregnancy pants that would fit comfortably. I tried on four different outfits, making myself feel bloated, soft and like my hard work over the last eight weeks got me nowhere. Then I had the brilliant idea of wearing one of my new favorite shorts that I recently bought and topping it with a t-shirt and throwing on a spring jacket until afternoon. Final result? Confidence – and it looked good!

The pre-pregnancy pants zipped but were so tight on my thighs, if I sat down you’d think I had giant marshmallows in them and my love handles stuck over the edge so I could rule out most of my tank tops.  Then I tried leggings that were so far stretched they were transparent. I felt disgusted with myself, and when I looked in the mirror, I could see the disappointment all over my face. So there I stood, wondering how on earth I gained 10 lbs over the weekend. I thought to myself, “I didn’t eat that bad. I would expect a little weekend bloat, but this?!”

Then I had that brilliant idea that I mentioned above. So I put on those favorite shorts and comfy blue shirt, looked in the mirror – with hesitation I won’t lie, but felt relieved. I was comfortable in my clothes again. It didn’t feel like my clothes were going to go ripping at the seams if I sat down. I didn’t have the “muffin top.” What I had was confidence. I felt good, and in return, I looked good.

So you see, it didn’t matter that my shorts were a bigger size than my jeans, what mattered was the fact that in one outfit I was restricted, and in the other, I could breathe.

So forget the number on the scale and the numbers and letters on your tags. Focus on how you feel and remember that confidence looks good on everyone.

A Couple Steps To Happiness

Happiness is one of the best feelings on earth! We watch movies that make us laugh, and we surround ourselves with people who make us feel alive because we crave happiness. That deep belly laugh, the tears from laughing so hard, the pain in your cheeks from smiling so big, the hop in your step, the sparkle in your eyes… all of the things that overcome you because of pure joy.  How do we keep that feeling though? How do we keep it from escaping when the movie ends, or the company leaves?

Be Yourself
– Think about it- you are with yourself from the moment your heart starts beating to the second it stops so be who you want to be and not who other people say you are. Growing up I would flip my middle finger to almost anyone who passed judgment, but then there were some people that I let define me. I let their two cents get to me without even realizing it most of the time. They said I was a certain way because that’s how they saw me in their eyes and I assumed they were right and assuming that was ignorant on my part. No one knows you better than you know yourself so stop letting people tell you who you are or how you should be and start listening to yourself and do what makes YOU happy!

Honestly, whether you like yoga or weights, who cares. Whether you’re vegan or eat meat at every meal, who cares. If it’s healthy and it makes you happy then let people judge away.

Get your mind right
– Your mind is a powerful tool. I know, so cheesy. Seriously though, feed it with the positive thoughts for awhile, and you’ll see. Be thankful for what you have. Find the positive in what surrounds you. Show kindness to people, even when they don’t deserve it and love without fear (yup, these are hard, but you can do it). Wake up and be happy you’re alive! Tell yourself you are special because you are. Tell yourself that you are loved because I ensure you that you are. Remind yourself that you are strong, beautiful, fun, smart, creative, a good parent, significant other… whatever positive qualities you can think of, feed your mind with them. 💜

It doesn’t come easy. It takes time and work to become someone that you enjoy, but I promise it’s worth the effort. You are worth the effort.

Protein Powder – Drink It

Do you know how many different protein powders there are out there on the market? Me either but I know it’s a shit ton! Protein from plant based to whey and flavors from cookies and cream to plain, you name it and they got it. It’s overwhelming! Lucky for you and not so lucky for my wallet, I’m a girl of curiosity and I’ve tried 10 different brands that I can remember. Here are my top 5 and why.

First, we should talk about why protein shakes are important. Whether you are lifting weights or going for long jogs you are getting microscopic tears in the tissue of your muscles. No, it’s okay! This is good. This is what makes you get that toned bod – keep reading. Your body automatically starts signaling to your muscles to start healing themselves and during this rebuilding time, your body is trying to alter itself to make sure that it doesn’t happen again which brings on new muscles that help get you that toned bod that I mentioned before. Drinking a protein shake at least 30 mins after a workout helps recover these tears and build more muscle since there is an efficient amount of protein and carbs.
